I had the distinct honor of meeting Mary DeMuth on the Help One Now trip to Haiti last month. She was so very gracious to give everyone on the trip a copy of her newest book "Everything" a few days before its official release.
I can only imagine what Mary must have felt as she stood in a room full of people (some complete strangers) holding something so very personal. She humbly extended her book to all as an invitation into her story. I humbly accepted it & placed it in my bag.
As the team boarded the plan for our return to the US, I pulled her book from my bag and turned the first page. Today, I slowly closed the last page.
While in Haiti, I had the privilege of hearing some of Mary's story first hand as we shared meals, rode in the van together, and sitting in a tent city church surround by 20,000 people who literally had nothing.
Those five days in Haiti, surrounded by some of the greatest poverty I've ever seen, will be etched in my mind forever. However, it's not the poverty that I will remember. The memories will always be the simple stories of people, just like Mary, who have endured, remained faithful, and have risen above their circumstances to point others toward the Father.
Mary's story and the encouragement found within the pages of "Everything" show that God is present, faithful, and in the surrender we truly find He is Everything.
Mary, thank you for pointing me towards the truth that "Jesus is the pathway to the Everything life."
For everyone else...this is a must read.
